FrontPage How-To Articles

I'm sure that the FrontPage 2000 server extensions are installed on my server. However, some of the FrontPage features (like Security and SubWebs) don't work.

One of the problems with server-dependant applications like the FrontPage server extensions is that you have to create a a custom version of the application for each operating system you intend to run it on. Unfortunately for users of Unix and Linux-based servers, the FrontPage server extensions don't always function like they should. Common problems with non-Microsoft-based operating systems include the inability to create SubWebs, the Security feature not functioning properly (if at all), and the Search component not working. Your Web hosting provider can probably tell you exactly what features of the server extensions don't work with whatever flavor of operating system they're using.

The bottom line is, if you want to make 100% sure the server extensions will function properly, you have to use a Microsoft-based server (like NT or Windows 2000).
